Why Improving Site Structure is Important To Web Marketing
For many marketers, a good marketing campaign means getting your business’s promotions in the eye of your intended customers, but by doing this, they often ignore the more technical side of things. A very important part of any campaign on the internet is making improvements on site-structure, which is overlooked by many.
Site-structure can refer to many different things, but really what it comes down to is quick and easy navigation on a website, from one page to the next. Customers expect to be able to find what they’re looking for quickly, without any trouble whatsoever, and crawl bots, such as google’s, also need to be able to visit every webpage you have, so that you get the full benefit of all of the content creation you’ve done.
In order to create and maintain good site structure, you need to follow a few simple steps:
- You need to make category pages which have descriptive URL’s, with words, and no unnecessary “page1” identifiers, so that people and bots can understand where they are easily.
- You need to maintain a hierarchical structure on your website, where you have the homepage>category page> sub category page. This makes sense to people , allowing for easier navigation for them and for bots. The hierarchical structure also allows you to present things of a higher level of importance first, attributing greater value to things which appear first.
- Avoid duplicate content. This means not having the same products repeat on 10 different pages, and using unique meta title and descriptions for each page.
