Brand Awareness – It’s not the same as brand recognition

Many people confuse the two, but we’re going to tell you why brand awareness is not the same as brand recognition. In simple terms, being aware of something is not the same as recognizing that something.

Brand awareness is a rudimentary form of brand recognition, where at least some basic knowledge about that brand can be named (e.g. brand name).

Brand Recognition goes further. If you recognise a brand, then you are definitely aware of it. If you’re able to recognise the logo, know some ifnromaiton about the brand and how good it is, that’s a completely different level to awareness.

So in short, knowing something exists is not the same as recognizing it, and that’s the main difference. Make sure you don’t confuse the two when you’re browsing various marketing websites or dealing with agencies.
